A hate crime is a criminal act that is motivated by prejudice or hatred against someone because of their identity or characteristics. This can include their race, religion, ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or other aspects of who they are.

Get help

Where safe and possible, a weapon should be returned to where it came from. If not, they should be safely disposed of.

You can contact your police force anonymously or search online to find out how weapons can be surrendered to the police. Often this can be done without the need for giving any personal details.

The NSPCC and Childline have some advice for anyone worried that they are involved in weapon or knife crime here.

If you have a concern about someone carrying or using an offensive weapon you can help reduce the risk by speaking anonymously to Fearless or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or call Childline on 0800 111. If someone is in immediate danger call 999.
