Know the signs

There is no typical victim of sexual exploitation, any young person of any gender from any background could become a victim. However, there are warning signs in a person’s behaviour which could indicate that they are at risk or already being sexually exploited.

Please see the real stories for examples of how the sexual exploitation of young people can develop and how young people can get out of it.

What are the different types of sexual exploitation?

This isn’t a complete list, but if any of the scenarios sound familiar then you may have been sexually exploited, even if the person who did it was a friend or boyfriend.

If you are under 18, this behaviour towards you is against the law. No one is allowed to do these things to you and you should get help or report it.

You should also read this list of ways to help you and your friends keep safe.
